TiVo and the Hawks

Allow me to sing the praises of TiVo for a moment. It makes watching Hawks games more fun:

1. I actually see the games. I can record them and forget about them, then watch 'em in about an hour.
2. When a play breaks down, I can rewind and check out who blew their assignment. Local TV coverage is horrendous in this aspect- they never analyze plays and don't show instant replays on most of the plays I'm interested in (turnovers, mystery fouls, wide open shots).
3. Super fast-forward when the Hawks are down by 20 points.

For example, last night's game was a good one. The Celtics are bad, and had about every guy collapsing inside to take away our non-existent inside game. So the Hawks decided to start shooting wide open 3's... and Made Them. We shoot the 3 better than most teams (leading the league in percentage). When they started covering the 3's, we started taking it inside- led by Al "True Professional" Harrington and Tyronne Lue. Lue gets great looks the first few times he slashes to the bucket, but he keeps trying it a few times too many (he may be doing it at the insistence of coach, but who knows).

Al played tough last night, a few times calling for it when he had a mismatch and not getting it. I'm going to back off Al a little bit. I've been harsh on him for not being professional in regards to his communications regarding the team, but he does play tough- and this team has not shown a lot of support for him in return. Of course, if we did sign him to a longer deal we could see an immediate drop in production- don't ever forget the inflated production of a man in a contract year.

Still, we were in the game until the end, and made some plays. That seems to be our MO as of late- with the exception of the Toronto game the other night (which doesn't seem to make sense from the box score, it looks like Toronto's 3 point shooting was the only difference), we haven't lost by more than 10 in a month. It feels like the talent is there, but there isn't much leadership on the team. I think Al wants to take over, but it's hard to look to a young guy with no allegiance as a team leader.

Marvin "Sexual Healing" looked awesome last night on his wide open shots. He had a few times he should've pump faked and taken it inside rather than shooting a contested jumper, but he looks like he's busting his ass out there. Salim "The Dream" may be losing his nickname- "DNP (Dreaming)" might be the new moniker. He's not getting minutes, even though his shooting is as good as ever. Those turnovers and that defense kill the team, even his numbers are strong. He's got to put in some work, and I recommend he start by growing out that awesome fro.

For the record, you posted this article after I posted mine, if that helps defend me at all.
