On pace for 55 - 27 (approximately)

Sorry for not recaping my experiences sooner, but when I get called out by a commenter- well, there's just no excuse. By the way, it looks like Chase Keuch has stepped up the quality of his recaps this year, so go check them out.

The game on Friday was... interesting. A "sold out crowd" of 19,604 which only got about half full by the end of the game. There were only about 3,000 people in attendence when the introductions were held. Of those, maybe 1 in 50 clapped- and only when the starters were introduced. It was depressing. I know those guys are getting paid big time cash to play, but it is difficult to play for something other than money when nobody in the arena bothers to show up or give a rat's ass.

For the record, I cheered for the introductions, which kind of cool- flames shooting up over the backboards, a big ramp in the corner where everybody came over the top. Joe Johnson came down last, and looked like he didn't want to be there. He didn't show up until the 2nd half, so maybe it was for the best.

Know this: The Knicks are the worst basketball team in the universe. They were terrible. Nobody on their team cares, except for the young guys. And maybe Eddie Curry when he gets around the basket. Steve Francis doesn't care. Stephan Marbury doesn't care. It's bad. We won that game only because they were terrible. A halfway decent team would have killed us, at home, on opening night.

Speedy Claxton didn't show me much. I know he's coming back, and he had one nice play with a quick drive to the hoop, but he turned the ball over on traveling violations like 4 times before getting benched- for CEDRIC BOZEMAN. Salim didn't see a minute, so I don't know what's up with that.

Shelden is a solid defender. He's not awesome, but he doesn't suck. So he's an upgrade over Al Harrington there. But he can't shoot right now, so a downgrade from Al on that end. But the defense thing is big.

Joe Johnson is too good. Really, he's so much better than everyone on the team (except Childress). He can do it all, and he deserves to be making max salary. He's not flashy, he just has great handles, shots and passing. He should be an All Star this year, unquestionably.

Childress should win the 6th man award. Beyond his stats, he changes the attitude of the team when he is on the court. He is a leader on both ends, and brings aggression as well as intelligence when he's out there. I can't say enough about him, he's fantastic.

Isiah Thomas should be fired. Down by 7 with about 44 seconds to go, he elected to not foul after a Hawks timeout. Even if we don't make a shot, you're going to waste 24 seconds when you need 3 scores? That's just stupid. And when Joe "Kid Dy-no-mite" Johnson nails a jumper to seal it? Ballgame.

To make a long story long, I'm not sure where we are going this year. Claxton needs to become the player he was supposed to be in a hurry, injured or not. Shelden needs to start nailing open 12 footers. Josh Smith needs to stop shooting 3 pointers that barely make it to the rim... 3 times in a row. Dr. Z needs to protect the rim a little better- Eddie Curry owned him, and I don't see Curry being the top center in the league by a long shot. Salim needs to play. Williams needs to heal. Childress needs to keep doing what he does, but maybe he should be a player-coach. The Hawks have had some good 3rd quarters this year, so maybe Woodson is doing his job.

And we already have 2 freaking wins, so go Hawks!
