Come Get Some

The Hawks dethroned the King last night. We turned the ball over a ton, but we shot the ball really well (52%). The article makes a big deal out of the Cavs missed free throws, but we missed almost as many- LeBron points that out, to his credit.

Speedy sat out the second half with "sore knees". I'm very familiar with that, since MY GRANDMOTHER has the same thing.

Tyronn Lue had a big night to match his stones, which are massive. He whiffed on a pair of free throws that could have iced the game late. After the Cavs made a 3 to take the lead, he botched a play to either score or get someone a good shot and only managed to give Josh 2 a horrible shot with 15 seconds to go. However. Lue came up huge with a full length drive with a beautiful little teardropper over LeBron to send the game to OT. He then nailed a 3 to put the Hawks up 5 at the beginning of extra time. I give him a hard time, but he is a winner. Skills and athletic ability aside, Tyronn Lue knows how to win.

The article kind of mentions this on the side, but the Hawks didn't turn the ball over in the final 10:48. It's not a coincidence that they went on a big run at the end. Turnovers kill this team- not only do we get more looks when we don't turn it over, but our rhythm is better and we actually shoot better, too. Joe had 6 last night, so I can't get too mad at anybody, but our numbers have not been good on that front.

One final thing: the Refs and LeBron. Embarrassing. I saw 2 horrible calls last night: At the end of the 1st, with 0.4 seconds left, Joe Johnson had a jump ball at the free throw line with... some other guy. He goes up, taps it, and it goes in! Amazing! Bob Rathburn craps his pants! But it gets called back, with the refs saying he held it and shot it, which you can't do on a jump ball. Replays show it was the most incredible play I've seen this year, with Kid Dy-no-mite playing it perfectly. Second, with time running out, Josh 2 gets a pass at the perimeter and puts up a pump fake. LeBron is running over to cover, he half bites on it, slips, and then slides into Josh as he takes it inside. He slams into Josh's legs, knocking him down. Josh is simultaneously trying to call a timeout while being confused as to why no foul was called. Hmmm, close game, in Cleveland, under a minute, LeBron James... well, it's bull crap. I don't care if the NBA fines me, but the replay showed the ref standing right in front of the play. He's an idiot and should be suspended, except that he's probably doing exactly what the NBA wants him to do. Junk.

Hawks on pace for 62 - 20.

Having Claxton as the starter has really seemed to light a fire under Lue's ass. He definetly does better coming off the bench, and as long as Speedy continues to suck, I dont mind seeing Lue getting the crunch time minutes.

Also, doesn't it seem like Rathburn has some odd type of mancrush on Lue? (I refuse to call him T-Lue as that got overdone roughly 23,272 times in the last 15 minutes of that game).

Hopefully we can get Marvin back in 2-3 weeks and Shelden can have a similar impact off the bench. I really think he can help the Hawks there, espically against really good 4s and 5s, because they are just destroying Zaza offensively now.

I agree on that J-Smoove missed call...it was an obvious foul in real time, and an egregious oversight when you saw the replay.

Still...great game...let's at least take 1 out of 2 this weekend. Never easy to win on back-to-back nights.

BTW, I see J-Chill becoming our Tayshaun Prince. An awkwardly build, awkward shooting, defensive stopper. Hope I'm right.
