Lottery Here We Come

If you aren't aware, here is the draft situation:

  • We will give our 1st round pick to Phoenix unless it is in the top 3
  • We will get Indiana's 1st round pick if it is outside the top 10.
  • We have no other picks (thanks Anthony Johnson, which I now totally regret).
Atlanta has been sucking it up lately, and our reverse draft status has improved- thanks, 5 game losing streak! 2 minutes ago I was arguing that we didn't even need the pick, and that we were going to be just off the playoff bubble. We're half a game in front of Milwaukee, who we play twice in the coming weeks (set your TiVo for that tanktastic game). Milwaukee is currently the third worst team, and we could totally take their spot with our current skillz.

Prediction: Joe Johnson is done. There is nothing for him to come back to at the point.

Prediction: Hawks take Joakim Noah with the 3rd pick in the 2007 draft. But you know that Billy Knight wants Kevin Durant bad. Another swingman for the Hawks? Couldn't hurt- you can never have enough swingmen.

I envision Noah being exactly the type of player that will rot on a shitty team like Atlanta. In a run and gun system like Golden State or Phoenix he could be a very effective player due to his athleticism and scoring ability in the open court. With the type of offense the Hawks run, I can't see him ever becoming a quality back-to-the basket posting up big man. His frame is too frail and he doesn't have many great low post moves.

I am personally hoping, borderline praying, for the Hawks to lose their last nine and get in the position to take Oden or Durant. Personally, I'd rather have Oden, but you can't go wrong either way obviously.

If we somehow get stuck with the third pick, I'd almost like to see us trade it to get a pick next year (when we definetely lose it to Phoenix). The two swingmen Wright from Kansas and UNC are essentially raw clones of half our roster. Green is good but redundant with our roster as well.

Yi from China I assume is a giant project, as is Hibbert from Georgetown. I like Horford, he'd probabaly be the best option w/ the third pick...really like to see us take Acie Law w/ Indy's pick also...

But anyways, theres still alot of losing to be done and it seems like half the teams in the league are tanking right now so who knows. Can't you see this team breaking off 5 wins in a row or bringing Joe back for the last few games and killing our draft chances? Me too.
