ACIE LAW IV G/TEXAS A&M
Acie Law! Heres what I wrote on TrueHoop:Prediction: Those Conley highlights killed me, but after taking Horford, Billy Knight should fulfill his promise to Acie Law and take him here. Anybody that outscores the opposing team by himself in crunch time of close games is a guy I want on my team.
Reaction: Acie Law IV, in addition to having a great basketball name, is a freaking stud. Don't let his point heavy college numbers fool you, he did what it took to win at Texas A&M. The Hawks need him to run the point and he's going to do it with a vengeance. Good draft for Billy Knight. Suck it, Belkin!
I like this pick. I am not convinced that the way Law played in college is the kind of player he's going to be in the pros. I think he's smart and that he will make a great point guard. Speedy will start, but Law is probably going to take Salim Stoudamire's minutes. Salim is suddenly 100% expendable, as the Hawks are already paying 4 other point guards now. Best case: Law is the best point guard in this draft, or Speedy Claxton plays like a guy making $6 million in the NBA. Worst case: The Hawks are wishing they had their draft pick next year instead of Phoenix.

Congrats on the awesome exposure that must bring you. I am jealous. Sometimes I post about sports, but lately it's been more music. I have some firsthand knowledge here, though, about why I agree with you that this was an obvious pick and one that hawks fans should celebrate (having not a lot to celebrate in recent years). I'm a University of Texas student, and in our down year, this kid Law seriously killed us more than once. He made this Longhorn really want to follow his NBA career, tho technically I can never be a fan. He's as clutch as anyone to ever play in the Big XII or the old SWC. Props on your blog; I'll check you out sometime during the NBA season. Go Mavs!

Anyway, I couldn't be happier with our 2 draft picks. I wanted the Amare trade badly, not because it's best for our longterm future, but because it would entice the casual fan to visit Phillips Arena.
Although I was hoping the Hawks would use the #11 or Childress for Jose Calderon (will be a good starting PG eventually), I thought Law was a great pickup. I feel like this guy is eventually going to be a leader for this team, something the Hawks need desperately.

I think that Acie Law will be a great player, another NBA shining star. But fans must give him some time :)
