The 2005 NBA Draft Sucks Even More

Last night would have been a pretty good night... if we hadn't drafted Marvin Williams last year.

What kills me is how Billy Knight doesn't care that he's pissing people off. If he's really serious about building a team of all power forwards as being the future, well, that's cool. But commit to it. Don't just joke around like it's not something completely different from anything ever done in the NBA. Be serious, explain that you are going to create a team with guys who can all shoot, rebound and block shots, although they will have difficulty stopping a talented 7 footer, or a talented 6'2" guard. So for example, Amare Stoudamire and Steve Nash would score 4000 points on our team of clones.

I did have a very hearty laugh when reading Eric Moneypenny's draft recap:
Boy, now that Atlanta has Shelden Williams, I can't wait to see how their experiment to fill their entire roster with 6-foot-9 forwards is going to work out. The Atlanta Hawks are truly revolutionizing the game of basketball.

They're turning into that movie where Michael Keaton gets cloned, and the clones all come out slightly different. Next season, I can picture a nervous Hawks assistant coach on the bench: "No, leave him in, coach. That's the 6-foot-9 forward that rebounds!"
I still like Marvin Gaye Williams AKA "Sexual Healing" and Sheldon Williams AKA "The Landlord" AKA "Littleface". Williams is the first Hawk bringing in his own decent nickname, so if he's halfway decent I may have to drop the Littleface moniker. And J-Smoove doesn't count. He's Josh 2.

Does he get Josh 2 by virtue of getting drafted 2nd?

My hope, of course, is that Shelden turns out to be as effective of an NBA players as the last 2 Duke PF/C to be taken in the 1st round (Boozer and Brand).

Different player, I know, but he dominated in college. Not alot of guys in the draft who had as impressive of a resume as The Landlord.

Age, draft order, and alphabetical order, he's #2.

I am definitely a fan of drafting 4 year college players, and he's got a solid career ahead of him. The more I hear about him- leadership qualities, toughness, etc. the more I like. The Hawks need a vocal leader, but it's tough to lay that all on a rookie.

Don't forget the Brand floundered for about 5 years before hitting his recent resurgence with L.A., and Boozer seems to be in a decline. At least we know he's prepared for life (thanks, Coach K).
